Application Filed For California Valley Solar Ranch

An application was filed with the San Luis Obispo County planners on Wednesday to build the California Solar Ranch. The project will result in a 250 MW solar plant in the eastern part of the county.

When completed, the plant will be able to produce enough electricity to supply power to almost every home in San Luis Obispo county. SunPower  Corp. a lolar power firm, was the last one of three firms that have filed an application to construct solar plants just north of the Carrizo Plain National Monument.

The plant won’t be providing solar energy in the near future, construction isn’t slated to begin until next year. And, won’t see full production until 2012. Pacific Gas and Electric has already signed contract with all three solar power firms to sell the energy produced at the three plants.

SunPower claims that they have the most efficient technology in the world for producing solar power. Their patented tracking system can rotate the panels to be constantly facing the sun.
