Atlantic Offshore Wind Energy Consortium

Ten U.S. states and the Department of the Interior have created the Atlantic Offshore Wind Energy Consortium. The consortium, established earlier this month will help promote the orderly, efficient, coordinated and responsible development of wind energy resources on the Outer Continental Shelf. There are numerous projects already planned and it is anticipated they will create lasting jobs quickly.

Ken Salazar, Department of the Interior Secretary and governors from Rhode Island, New Jersey, New York, Main and several other states signed the Memorandum of Understanding to establish the consortium on June 8. Salazar also announced a new regional renewable energy office that will be located in Virginia. The office will be responsible for controlling and establishing wind energy projects on the Outer Continental Shelf.
