Con Edison Awarded $136 Million In Smart Grid Stimulus
Con Edison has been granted $136 million from the United States Department of Energy from the smart grid stimulus. The money is to help fund a smart grid program for Con Edison customers in the New York and Orange and Rockland Utilities.
Con Edison is just one of 100 projects that will share in the Smart Grid Investment Grants that total $3.4 billion. A smart grid integrates communication and information technology into generating electricity, delivering it to customers and the consumption.
“I want to commend President Obama, Governors Paterson and Corzine, and all of our legislative leaders, for supporting investments in revolutionary technology that will enhance the reliability of our nation’s electric grid, while giving consumers better information to use energy more efficiently,” said Kevin Burke, chairman, president, and CEO of Con Edison. “We will put the smart grid stimulus funds to work immediately for 9 million New Yorkers.”
