Deep Sea Floating Solar Generator Stations

Just as we go offshore to drill for petroleum fuels, the U.S. may one day be going offshore to get solar energy! With the best resources for strong winds offshore, floating wind turbines could supply a huge amount of solar energy for the country.

Japan began testing a floating generator base in July and are hoping to soon test a model generating plant. Although, the research team expects it to take somewhere around three years to actually produce a real working, floating energy station.

However, if the test models prove to be successful, it’s estimated that some of these eco-rigs could actually produce as much energy as a nuclear facility. But, producing solar energy to offset the high pollution of fossil fuels won’t be the only advantage to Japan’s sea going rigs.

Each rig will have diodes that emit light allowing the floating eco-rigs to double as a sort of nursery for seaweed. Seaweed absorbs carbon monoxide, but since lot’s of fish depend on seaweed for food, stimulating the growth of seaweed would increase fish population as well!
