General Motors Heads Toward Landfill Free Plants
With over 80 plants world wide, General Motors plans to be totally waste free by 2010! If all goes as planned all the waste will be recycled and nothing will end up in landfills. And, while the company is doing a big part in helping the environment, another main goal is revenue.
The company already sees a net income of $1 billion per year just from the sales of scrap metal. But, they also recycle cardboard, plastic, wood, oil and many other products which adds another $16 million to their yearly revenue in the United States alone.
General Motors already recycles around 96% of their plants waste totaling over 3 million tons around the world. The plants have already been sending over 50,000 tons of wood to energy facilities that have reused the waste.
The company already has forty-three plants that are landfill free facilities. Once all the plants reach landfill free status, the companies earnings will reach all time highs.
