Governor’s Join To Form Wind Energy Coalition
The Governor’s Wind Energy Coalition, a group of 23 bipartisan governors was formed to work on ways to promote the development of America’s wind energy resources. The coalition sent a letter to President Obama stating that it was beginning a partnership with the administration to address some pressing needs such as climate hcange, energy and jobs.
The coalition is led by Governor Chet Culver a democrat from Iowa and Minnesota’s republican Governor, Tim Pawlenty. There are four policies that the coalition is recommending and have asked the newly appointed president to work with them in achieving these goals.
They’re asking for a renewable electricity standard that would require all of the utilities nationwide to be producing 20 percent of the electricity from wind resources by 2030. They’re also asking for support in the construction of an interstate transmission, resulting in a more secure grid.
The coalition is seeking an expansion of the Department of Energy’s involvement with states and acceleration of innovations. The last goal is to adopt a long term tax credit for renewable energy production.
