Green Job Program Beginning At ISU

The federal government as awarded a grant that will establish a new program at Idaho State University to train students for green jobs. The $1.5 million grant will allow the university to train technicians that are suited for the work needed in the renewable energy industry.

The Department of Labor grant will be given to ISU’s Energy Systems Technology and Education Center. The money will be used by university administrators to create a nine month program to certifiy technicians that can pursue careers in wind energy as well as other fields of renewable energy.

The students that complete the green job training program will be certified as renewable energy technicians. With some extra classes, those students will be able to obtain an associates degree in mechanical engineering technology or wind engineering. The university hopes to be able to start offering classes in the fall of 2011.
