GSA Invests $4 Billion Nationwide

Earlier this month the U.S. General Services Administration implemented a major milestone in making the nation greener. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will help to transform federal buildings into high performance green buildings. The GSA awarded construction projects to over 500 companies that will bring jobs to all 50 states, 2 territories and the District of Columbia with an investment of $4 billion in funds.

Since the Recovery Act was passed, GSA has provided funding for 391 projects. The agency had promoted the Recovery Act through lower than anticipated bids. It’s funded $173 million in additional work to provide U.S. federal buildings with equipment that is low cost, energy conserving and has sustainable features at no additional costs to the taxpayers.

“By delivering on-time and under-budget on these green retrofit projects, we’re not only making more cost-saving building improvements than anticipated, but creating new opportunities for more than 500 companies nationwide,” said Vice President Joe Biden.
