Harnessing Solar Energy From Outer Space
There’s been some talk about harnessing solar energy from outer space. There’s also been a wide debate on whether it’s an actual possiblity, or if the enormous expense will out weigh the benefits to the environment. But, using solar energy from outer space to light your home, or heat and cool it might not be too far in the future.
The Pacific Gas and Electric Company has been in the business of producing energy for years. They produced power from various sources including natural gas, water and atomic energy. The San Francisco based company has recently teamed up with a start up company in Manhattan Beach, called Solaren Corporation.
Solarian has plans to launch a series of giant sized solar collectors into orbit. These collectors will beam the energy from space down to the earth in radio waves from 23,000 miles in the atmosphere above Fresno. Pacific Gas and Electric has already finalized the contract to purchase the power from the Solarian Corporation, if they can successfully make the new technology work.
