Haworth Reduces CO2 Emissions Through Green Shipping
Haworth office furniture manufacturer has joined with a mid-west trucking company to reduce CO2 emissions from shipping their products. By using reusable equipment and product wrapping, they’ve reduced around 20% of the emissions released from their previous shipping method.
Their new eco-friendly packing method involves the simple use of protective blankets for covering tables and chairs instead of cardboard. If more companies follow suit, the reduction in carbon dioxide emissions could be enormous.
A two month study conducted by a research company in Indianapolis, resulted in a 20% reduction for each pound of furniture shipped during the testing period. The total reduced emissions over a years time would equal over 283 tons, the amount that would result in taking 52 cars off the road or the emission total from heating around 99 homes using natural gas.
Another great benefit with this green shipping method is space! By using plywood tiers, bars, straps and blankets instead of cardboard, the trucks gained 65% more product capactity. Now more furniture can be transported with each shipment and there’s no card board waste products!
