Kraft Company Transforms Cheese Into Energy

Kraft has taken one of the latest moves in helping green the planet by reusing surplus materials to create energy! Two of the company’s cheese plants in New York will make use of digesters to turn whey waste into energy to be used at the plants!

The cheesy energy will be used to provide the plants with one third of their natural gas consumption. The company has been practicing green disposal methods of their whey waste by finding other uses for it for some time. They’ve found places that have used it for fertilizer and feed for animals.

Recycling the whey product will not only save the plants energy use, it’s keeping CO2 emissions down by not having to transport the materials else where.  The two plants are located in Lowville and Campbell and are just a small part of the companies efforts to eliminate waste.
