Logan International Airport Installs Wind Turbines For Green Energy
Twenty wind turbines have been installed by Architectural Wind at the Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts.
The five blade turbines are part of the airports overall energy program and its efforts to surpass the national standards regarding energy efficiency. In addition to making the airport greener the wind turbines is also expected to lower operating costs.
The wind turbines were positioned strategically on buildings at the airport to take advantage of the aerodynamic properties of the structures. According to Architectural Wind this type of positioning can increase the electrical power output of the devices by over 50 percent as opposed to locating them on open ground. Additionally, placing the turbines on buildings reduces the footprint of the wind turbines and allows them to better blend with the aesthetics and design of the facility.
Logan International Airport was awarded with a Gold Level certification by the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design in recognition of their achievements in energy efficiency.
