Los Angelos Transit Goes Solar

The largest photovoltaic panel system that is used to provide power for a transit facility is now located in Los Angelos. The announcement was made earlier this week by the Los Angelos County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

The Transportation Authority has had a solar energy array installed that generates 1.2 megawatts on the downtown Los Angelos Support Services Center. This solar array will be providing about half of the annual energy needs for the facility and is estimated to save around $550,000 yearly in costs.

The new solar array consists of 6,270 panels that will reduce enough annual carbon emissions that it  will be the equivalent of removing around 600 cars from the highways or planting about 550 trees. The facility spans an area of 27 acres and is used for various purposes including vehicle repairs.
