Mass. and Rhode Island Coordinate Proposed Wind Project

Massachusetts and Rhode Island have made an agreement to coordinate on potential wind projects that will be located in a designated area of 400 square miles of federal waters. The agreement identifies the area that starts 12 miles southwest of Martha’s Vineyard and spans 20 miles reaching into Rhode Island Sound.

Don Carcieri, Rhode Island governor and Deval Partrick, Mass. governor, made joint statements that the agreement will be a roadmap for both states to move forward in offshore projects. The agreement mandates taht the states collaborate together on a economic development study to evaluate the benefits and costs of developing wind power projects in the specified area.
