Michigan Approves Wind Research Grant

The Michigan Public Service Commision has just approved two grants that total around $1.7 million that will be used to study the development of offshore wind technologies in the state. The grant will be divided between two recipents.

The Grand Valley State University’s Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center and the University of Michigan’s Memorial Phoenix Energy Institute will be getting $1.3 million. The grant will be used for joint research on the offshore wind and ice date on Lake Michigan.

The remaining $350,000 will go to the Superior Watershed Partnership to research sites wind energy potential on the lake. This organization will also assess the public opinion in the area about the development of offshore wind projects.
