Minnesota Approves 78 MW Wind Power Project

Minnesota state regulators have recently finalized all the approvals that will allow the development of a 78 megawatt wind power project located near the town of Goodhue. The projects development is being led by the American Wind Alliance, AWA. The joint venture was founded by the Mesa Power Group LLC with the support of General Electric.

In a recent approval for the projects purchase power agreement and permits, the Minnesota Public Utility Commission gave the AWA permission to proceed with the initiative. The Goodhue wind project is owned by Mesa Power who is helping to finance the project and supplying the 52 GE wind turbines.

The Goodhue project will encompass 12,000 acres and the construction contract is expected to be awarded to a firm based in Minnesota in the next few weeks. The project goal is to begin breaking ground during the fourth quarter and delivering power by late next year.

Currently, AWA has reached agreements on 7 other wind power transactions that total over 750 megawatts. There are four projects in Ontario, one each in Michigan, Minnesota and Missouri. The AWA was established to help drive the continued growth for the wind industry.
