Ontario Power Adds 184 New Renewable Projects

Before long even more homes and businesses in Ontario will be powered using green energy. A contract was recently awarded that will provide almost 2,500 megawatts of renewable energy. The news was announced earlier this month by Ontario’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Brad Duguid.

These renewable projects are approved under Ontario’s landmark Feed=in Tariff (FIT) and are a part of the largest green energy investment in Canada’s history. These new projects are an addition to 510 contracts approved last month totaling 112 megawatts.

“These projects are the latest accomplishments of the Green Energy Act which is making Ontario a place of destination for green energy development, manufacturing, and expertise.” said Minister Duguid. “The investments generated by FIT will not only create green jobs, but will also build a coal-free legacy for future generations.”

The recent 184 projects will generate enough energy to provide power to 600,000 homes. All of the FIT contracts combined will create around 20,000 direct and indirect jobs in the industry and bring in around $9 billion from private sector investments. It will also bring in new investments in Ontario in the form of new manufacturing facilities.
