Palo Alto Receives Department Of Energy Award
The U.S. Department of Energy applauded Palo Alto this week for it’s contribution to a cleaner environment. The city was given an award for the “Small Residential/Commercial Green Power Program or Supplier of the Year”.
while a total of four utilities across the country received the award, Palo Alto’s city owned utilities have the largest customer participation in clean energy in the United States. Other cities recognized for the accomplishment were St. Louis, Norcross, Georgia and San Francisco.
Only around a fourth of the utilities in the U.S. are currently offering green options for power. The clean energy program was launched by the city five years ago and has seen a steady increase each year. This year Palo Alto’s sales are estimated to pass 59 million kilowatt hours.
