San Jose, California to Get Electric Car Plant

Telsa Motors Inc. has chosen San Jose, California to build an electric car assembly plant. The plant will also house a corporate campus and include a research and development center. The companies newest plant will employ approximately 1,000 workers.

The $250 million plant will be manufacturing a zero emission luxury sedan that can accommodate five passengers. Called the Model S, the expected price will be around $60,000. The electric vehicle will run on a lithium-ion battery pack and will average around 240 miles before needing recharged.

Plant construction is expected to start in the summer of 2009, however the electric cars aren’t expected to be available until late in 2010. The plants projected yearly vehicles will range from 15,000 to 30,000.
