Solar Ventures and SunPower To Build 3 Solar Plants

Solar Ventures and SunPower Corp. have signed a contract to jointly design and build three solar power plants in Italy’s Piedmont region. The plants will total 11.1 megawatts and will be one of the largest solar developments in the region. Construction on the three plants is set to begin this month and the facilities are expected to be completed by the end of this year. SunPower will mount standard efficiency solar panels on fixed tilt, ground mounted systems including their Serengeti panels.

“Solar Ventures built its first photovoltaic plant in Piedmont in 2007, where we have experienced excellent community and administration support for solar park development, as well as good irradiance levels,” said Michele Appendino, CEO and chairman of Solar Ventures. “We have therefore decided to focus our development efforts in this region, where we have other similar clusters of plants under construction this year. We are happy to work with SunPower, whose technology will deliver clean and renewable solar power for many years to come.”
