The Top States Adding Wind Power
A United States trade group, the American Wind Energy Association, recently announced that Texas led the U.S. with 436 megawatts of new wind power. Oregon came in at second for the top states in the nation by adding 251 megawatts, Illinois with 201 megawatts and Colorado with 174 megawatts.
Although Wyoming is listed among the top states that added new wind power, the state still has one of the smaller generating capacities at a total installed capacity of 986 megawatts. The U.S. leader for wind power is Texas with a total of 8,797 megawatts.
The American Wind Energy Association stated that a total of 1,649 megawatts of wind generating power was installed in the U.S. between the months of July and September. That amount is enough power to serve the needs of 480,000 average households.
