TVA Green Energy Program Up And Running
TVA’s Generation Partners program is temporarily running once again. The program pays a premium for the production of green power through large solar and wind projects as well as other renewable energy projects. The public power producer recently announced that they were in discussions to begin building systems that were as large as one megawatt.
TVA estimates that all pending agreements will be processed by the end of August. Companies and contractors have responded enthusiastically to the news. Prospects were grim when the Tennessee Valley Authority abruptly places a moratorium on the program in mid June. However, they did lift it the next week for smaller systems.
The moratorium went into effect this spring when applications began to multiply so fast that TVA funds of $50 million couldn not support all of them. At the present, the program will be limited to renewable projects that are 200 kilowatts and under. The way in which larger projects will be treated after August 31 has not yet been determined.
