UA Campus Installing Solar Array

Tucson Electric Power, a Arizona electric utility, will be installing a 1.6 megawatt solar array at the University of Arizona’s solar development center. The University of Arizona TechPark’s SolarZone covers 200 acres and is a testing bed for new technologies and solar power research projects. The presence of UA in Tucson has helped to make the city a solar hotbed.

The project will utilize 5,808 solar panels that will be manufactured by   SOLON Corp., a Tucson company. The systems that SOLON will be providing are preconfigured which means that they will be quick to install. Shorter times for installation mean that the labor costs will be much lower for project developers. It also means that the project will be up and running much sooner and begin supplying clean energy to Tucson residents.
