U.S. To Get 46 Government Funded Energy Research Facilities

A new research center that will be focusing on ways to develop more effecient and effective technologies for solar energy is coming to Michigan. The University of Michigan will soon be the location of the Department of Energy research center.

The university just announced this week that the new center is to be just one of a total of 46 government research centers across the United States. The announcement also included a second research center for Michigan at the State University.

Plans to develop these energy research centers were also recently announced by President Obama. The centers are part of a wider effort to help the nation in developing cleaner technologies and resources from solar energy.

Many believe that renewable energies, particularly solar energies are one area of opportunity for rebuilding the economy. While it may or may not help to rebuild the failing economy, renewable energies can help build a better future for the entire world.

The federal government will be funding these new facilities for a minimum of five years. The main focus will be on materials that will help improve both the conservation and storage of solar power. There will be around two dozen faculty members from various academic disciplines involved in the centers. And, part of the research will involve the new emerging field of nanotechnology.
