Wind Energy Is Green Energy
Wind and water energy have long been known to be green energy. Before fossil fuels were used to produce power mankind made use of wind mills and water turbines.
Now, NASA Scientists at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory are using a satellite to study wind patterns of the oceans to locate the windiest areas which will be ideal for the construction of wind powered energy plants. They are also looking at ways to employ turbines on or below the surface to create energy.
Denmark has the distinction of being the first nation to successfully deploy this technology with a device that is capable of producing 3.6 megawatts.
Siemens and StatoilHydro have plans to erect wind turbines offshore sometime in 2009. Both companies are testing designs that will require minimal maintenance and withstand the harsh conditions of the open ocean.
Wind and water driven energy from offshore power plants is yet another technology that can help our world to become both less dependant upon fossil fuels and more environmentally friendly.
