World’s Largest Bottle to Bottle Recycling Plant
Coco Cola just opened the largest bottle to bottle recycling plant in the world in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The plant will have the capacity to produce 100 million pounds of recycled plastic that will be turned back into 2 billion 20oz bottles!
The bottles are made from polyethylene, or PET. PET is one of the most often recycled plastics, although only about 25 percent of it is ever recyled. The Spartanburg plant will be taking bottles from the Northeast all the way to Florida and recyling them.
Seeing profits from recycling has created problems for years, but Coca Cola hopes that with the improvement in technology and the manufacturing process, this plant will make money. If the plant does see profits, the company plans to open more PET recycling plants.
